The Past recaptured

Photo-installation, 1999

The installation is made of one table, two chairs, computer drawn game cards, the photo of the two players displayed on the wall (as in the photograph itself) to recreate the interior of a public place, such as a bar.

In this piece, the card game is the medium which I have chosen to include the observer in the piece itself. The action is repeated each time it is proposed to the observer, the photographic image reusing the action developed infinitely (as if it were mirrored ad infinitum).

In addition, the observer can read the cards, to recompose as a puzzle, a Schopenhauer text on the pack of cards. By also inviting reading and meditation, the stack of cards takes on a function opposite to competition.
